Self-introduction, Now. I am Ty Hasegawa
For most of you, I am just a person who likes fishing.
But actually, I am a professional about fishing tackle. I know all the phases of the journey from planning until the store shelves around fishing or angling products.
Since I started my professional career in 2006, I have had various kinds of industry experiences; from Japanese domestic market sales representative to the product manager.
My journey began at Globeride Inc., the company behind the world-renowned DAIWA brand, where I worked my way up from domestic sales to overseas sales management and eventually became Chief of the Marketing Department. During this time, I gained deep insights into the global tackle market, from product development to marketing strategy and international distribution.
From 2010 to 2018, I served as Product Manager at Daiwa-Cormoran Sportartikel Vertrìb GmbH in Germany, overseeing product strategies and market positioning across Europe. This gave me first-hand experience in adapting Japanese innovation to Western angling cultures and strengthening brand presence overseas. As a product manager, I was executing planning and marketing, while observing all the processes, including the production and sales.
One thing about fishing in Germany.
It is not globally known that, in Germany, you have to get a license. As a resident in Germany, you can never go fishing without it. (Foreign visitors are different.)
Yes. It is the one just like a hunting license that requires a paper exam. It is a little extreme from my Japanese eyes that you have to take about 30 something hours of lectures to apply for the exam. Of course, all of these lectures are done in German and the exam is in German.
During my stay in Germany, I got this license.
It is crazy but I am now convinced that this kind of proper understanding of nature is very profitable for the angling world. Conceptually, all the German anglers are educated, and know about the basic things around.
After I came back to Japan in 2018, I was working at headquarter of Daiwa, as a product planner of reels and overseas sales department’s account manager later on.
I left Globeride in 2023, because I wanted to pursue my personal goal to promote Japanese fishing tackles in a broader sense. Then I established my company CB Trade Inc. My company is now supporting brands (not only domestic brands), distributors, and entrepreneurs navigate the exciting opportunities of the fishing industry. Through my company, I can provide consulting services that cover market research, export-import strategy, overseas sales, marketing for fishing tackle businesses, and serving with my full knowledge about product development.
Through this blog, I want more people to know the depth of Japanese fishing culture, as well as product information.
I know some of my topics are not popular ones. But it is my pleasure that those who want to know more or different sides of fishing enjoy reading my articles.
If you want to know something about Japanese fishing or questions about general fishing tackle matters, please let me know. I will enjoy providing my knowledge by replying to it!
